San Mateo College
California is known for hosting among the best colleges and universities in the west coast. San Mateo College, commonly known as College of San Mateo or simply as CSM, is a community college in San Mateo, California. The school was first established in 1922. CSM is a member of the San Mateo County Community College District. The college has an average enrollment of over 10,000 students each term. CSM awards close to 100 majors, nearly 70 AA and AS degree majors and almost 70 certificate programs. The school also has hundreds of transfer areas for its students.
The school started, in 1922 with just 35 students, as the San Mateo Junior College. The first classes were held in the classrooms of San Mateo High School on Baldwin Avenue. Then in 1931 the school changed the school curriculum and changed the name from a junior college to a community college. Then in 1954, students voted to change the name of the school from San Mateo Junior College to College of San Mateo (CSM), partly in honor Charles S. Morris.
The main campus of San Mateo is found on 153 acres of land in the hills of San Mateo. The campus is found 40 minutes north of San Jose and 20 minutes south of San Francisco. CSM has six academic divisions including Coastside and Special Projects, Business and Technology, Physical Education, Athletics and Dance, Creative Arts and Social Science, Math and Science, and Language Arts. Most of the students that finish their Associate degrees in CSM transfer to California State University or the University of California to complete a 4-year degree.
The College of San Mateo has intramural events in several sports, including swimming, football, water polo, baseball, cross country, softball, basketball and track and field. The school colors are blue and white and the school nickname are the Bulldogs.
